The History of Birmingham's Nursery School's

Nursery school's have a long history dating back to the early 20th century. 1904 saw the first ever nursery school  set up by the great philanthropists of their times the Cadburys (chocolate) family and the Lloyds (banking) family. Julia Lloyds opened and managed the free nursery which was funded by Cadbury's in the Greet area of Birmingham. The nursery was to set up to support the most disadvantaged children of Birmingham.

In the Summer of 2014 an exhibition was put up to celebrate the journey of Birmingham's nursery schools. Birmingham has 27 nursery schools, one of the largest number of any local authority in England. The exhibition takes you through dates, details and images of the past one hundred years plus of Birmingham's nursery schools.
